"SEEKING FUN INSTEAD OF VICTORY" COMMENTS about A Book coming up soon by Dr John Ewbank. Although the book concerns global government, this is dependent upon individual philosophy. I am neither a hedonist nor a materialistic humanist. However, I contend that it is excessive stress upon traditional duties that has most delayed the reorganization of the world. Passion for external clout arises from the seeking of victory in the various battles concerning external clout. As the individual focuses more on individual freedom, individual choice, individual responsibility, and individual happiness, sustainability, and world government can erupt. Such a title would connote something about philosophy and playing games and seeking happiness. It still have chapter titles that were slogans. Many are aware of the dismal trends connoting that civilization might not endure for a few centuries. Others might have blueprints emphasizing just what authority must be globalized for saving the world. World government will erupt as soon as a sufficient number of individuals wake up to the benefits of seeking individual happiness. Shifting from dutifully reading scores of books per year on world problems to seeking fun, if made by individuals aggregating significant external clout, might expedite the panarchic shift toward sustainability. Such a drastic transformation of the institutional matrix needs to be prepared for while recognizing that world government has been delayed for more than a century. Peacenik minority focusing on victory by defeating those lacking the patterns expected of peaceniks. As more individuals treat life as a game to be played for fun without overemphasis upon defeating the opponent, a yet-to-be-invented proposal can be brewed from the abundance of the “illustrative examples”. Nations aggregating the overwhelming clout of the world can hopefully ratify such a Proposal and launch a panarchic federation. This is analogous to the shit toward sustainability within an environmental system when an appropriate combination of factors shock the system that previously could encourage the fair competition among each of many species seeking its own maximum growth. The cosmos has relied upon the fair competition for evolving the amazing complexity of the universe. Now that survival of civilization is threatened, the panarchic shift can occur or erupt as soon as the experts stop their fanatical efforts to defeat the conflicting experts.
Many are familiar with the great gulf between the role of a typical “little league” baseball team and the role of a soccer team within a congenial league. Winning is everything to the baseball coach. Encouraging all players to appreciate good sportsmanship and to have fun is the motivation for sandlot soccer. As soon as world federalists begin acting more like soccer coaches by enjoying the game instead of being addicted to climbing the ladder of success to victory, world government seems likely to erupt. Cleo Michelson has the best perspectives on the history of federalism, and might or might not deem the game theory pertinent to what has happened in the past and what might happen in the next few decades. Possibly a brief essay resembling this theme might be prepared for publication at this site. (www.homeruleglobally.org)
